Putin, Macron, Scholz discuss global food security

MOSCOW/PARIS, May 30 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin, his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have discussed the global food security, the Kremlin said in a statement on May 28.

Putin said that the ongoing crisis was a result of the anti-Russian sanctions and of mistakes made by the Western countries in their economic and financial policies. Russia is ready to cooperate in seeking options for uninhibited exports of grain, including exports of Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea ports, the Kremlin said.

The tension on the world food market will ease if Russia’s exports of food and fertilizers grow, which will happen if the sanctions are lifted.

The Elysee Palace said in a statement that Macron and Scholz had told Putin that it was necessary to lift blockade from the port of Odessa to allow exports of Ukrainian grain. The French president and the German chancellor took note of Putin’s promise to ensure access to the port if all the mines there are defused, the authority said.
